Family hike

We met some french people, Charlotte & Guillaume who like hiking very much. They have been living in Turkey for 6 years and in Antalya for 3. They offered to show us the wonders of the surrounding Antalya.
There are 2 major trails along the sea : St Paul's way (to the East) & the Lycian way (to the West). Each of them is a 300 km hike that should keep us busy for quite some time.

We started on an easy level with this family hike. Maelle & Paul quite enjoyed the walk and especially the fresh oranges picked on the orange trees.

From Sea to Sky (sorry for the poor quality of the picture, taken with my cell)

Antalya offers the possibility to hike from sea to snow. Of course, you need to be in pretty good shape: 1,600 m elevation (above 7000 feets) but it's worth a try.

Sabine granted me a day to enjoy this hike while she was taking care of the 3 monsters.

It's a wonderful hike with the sea in the background while your feets are in the snow, and this under a wonderful blue and sunny sky.

Unfortunately we couldn't make it to the top because of the last icy slope but I was quite happy to make a u turn.

1,000 m elevation was enough for me this time. It made me want to come back and make it to the top. Any volunters???

French words in turkish language

Even if we don't speak turkish yet, we can read as the alphabet is not too different from the french one. We found out that there are a lot of french words used in the turkish language (about 10 % we were told). The spelling of these words is so different from the french one that it is sometimes difficult to recognize a word unless you speak it out loud. Poor Maelle and Paul, they will have big troubles with spelling tests when we'll go back to France !!!! Here are a few examples for the french-speaking readers. Can you recognize those words ?

- tayyör (ö se prononce -e-)

- kartuş (ş se prononce -ch-)

- aksesuar

- psikolog

- kuaför

- ekselans

- şemine

- asensör

I'll write more whenever I find them.

Can you find me????

Kursunlu Selalesi

The good aspect of heavy rains is the possibility to see nice waterfalls. Only 20 miles away from Antalya, Kusunlu Selasi (waterfall in turkish) is the perfect place for a little hike on a Sunday afternoon.
And, for our Tucsonian friends, we assure you that we can find permanent water on the washes ...

Fishermen in Antalya

Can't you picture yourself sitting on these rocks and hoping for a big catch???
Paul can and he's looking forward fishing. We're not sure he will be patient enough but it's worth trying.
As you can see, on these pics, Antalya on sunny days is wonderful.
The sea has amazing colors and the snow on the montain in the back gives a very nice contrast.
